Join us as we begin a series of wine dinners with a deep dive into the Rockpool Wine Cellar and look into the history of Australian wine.  Our Sommelier will showcase the bounty of early spring alongside the great Australian classics that put our amazing wine regions on the world map.

The evening starts with the 2012 Blanc de Blancs from Victoria’s own Gembrook Hill.  One of the oldest estates in the Upper Yarra, Gembrook has become an icon for pure and vibrant Blanc de Blancs. It will certainly do the bounty of our seas’ justice.

Then, we’ll move on to one of the most unique wines we’ve come across from the darling of Heathcote-Jasper Hill. Their aged Semillon comes to us straight from their cellar, and continues to compel us.

Chef’s Great Ocean Road Duck Confit is a dish that beckons great wine, so we’ll go back to one of the most iconic wines ever produced, period. Seppelt at Great Western was founded in 1851 on the tail of the Gold Rush.  The wines have been on our tables for over a century, and the 1960’s Show Sparkling Burgundies are perhaps the most sought after.  We’ll crack open a few 1963’s in perfect condition to match chef’s duck.

Continuing with the theme of historic heroes of Australian wine, we’ll finish the savory portion of the meal with a pairing of cuts from our dry-aged beef cellar with a magnum of 1991 Wendouree Malbec.  This is perhaps their rarest bottling, and should punctuate the meal perfectly.

The meal will culminate with delectable sweets from our pastry chef, and feature some good old-fashioned Australian Port.  A great looking bottle of Hardy’s Reserve Bin Show Port M127 from 1951is on deck and ready to go.
